Knitting and Maxi Dress

Hi Guys

So I have not been sewing much but I did manage to make another Maxi Dress, the same way as in the tutorial I made for you guys minus the gathers. I also knitted myself a tube top which I prob wont ever wear because I feel weird in tube tops but it was too cute to pass up, I think it's from a book called "Fitted Knits" not sure :)

Add On

Tracy left a good comment regarding my last post so i thought I would give you an additional tip:

Just like any top pattern you know if you have a long torso or not and you can add length to the bodice. Also the pants pattern came together so good, because they are loose fitting the crotch falls right onto place..lol

When I did the muslin, the pants waist is right at the natural waist which makes it a great pattern to mesh with the top. Remember to do two things!!!

Add the 2" to the top of the pants since you wont be using the waistband and add 1" to the bodice length so that you get a nice foldover when worn.

Tracy has left a new comment on your post "Pattern Review: Sorta": I like doing it your way better. At least you know you have enough room through the crotch area. This is one of those jobs where the neck to waist measurement has to be correct or your jumpsuit will be a killer. You know what I mean.

Pattern Review: Sorta

I could have saved myself a lot of time drafting the patterns for the dress and pants I posted a few days ago...lol

I decided I wanted to make myself a jumpsuit/one piece/ whatever you want to call it. So I took my bodice pattern for the dress and attached it to the pants pattern and lo and behold a jumpsuit :) BUT this is why I could have saved myself time. I went to joanns and was looking through pattern magazines then I came across two that I could have easily blended to create the same exact look. so I did a test and it worked so I made it again in this great plumb color fabric.

I will tell you how I did it.

First you need these two patterns:

V1096
V8241

Okay so you cut out the bodice of v8241 and cut out pants from V1096, (make sure to check that the bodice hem width and the pants wait width will match) add some SA to the sides of the bodice so that it matches the waist of the pants.

After you complete all the steps for the bodice set aside and sew the pants together. The pant leg is inserted into the other and then the crotch seam is sewn, sew the crotch starting in the CF and stop 4" before you get to the CB waist, you will need this to add your zipper.

Then attach the bodice to the pants, serge or finish you edges once they are sewn in 5/8" SA and press up towards bodice. From the front sew the SA down to create a casing for the elastic.
not you will add the elastic to the waist making sure to thread your elastic just past the CB Seam so you can easily attach your zipper with out the gathering of the elastic. (do this on both sides)

Now you can add your invisible zipper and add the elastic to the hem of the pants if you would like.

lol, there is the quick explanation, if you need help email me mimigoodwin at mac dot com.

Fantastic Book

I just finished reading this great book: it is filled with lots of pics, advice, information, techniques and so much more. For a beginner this is great knowledge to have and for seasoned seamstresses this book gives a lot of information and techniques that will help you "up your game" it is for sure one I will look through often.

Spring!!!

So I am getting my wardrobe ready for spring :) I am loving floral prints right now so I have gone nuts! I dont have pattern reviews becuse these are self drafted but take a look :)

you know I amnot afreaid of color or prints..lol

This so super easy to make because all you need to do is draft a basic bodice and skirt attach at the waist and use the seam allowance to create a casing for the elastic then you make a cute little sash to match :)

These are fab!!!!!, this is just a basic loose fitting pant with an elastic waist and then I added elastic to the hem and created wrap around ties :)

this is the dress on me (bad pic)

These are the pants :) on me

Blazer, B5247 & Music

So Sunday was the first time my 15 yr old has ever sung in front of people, beside me and daddy of course. Our pastor wanted chastidy to sing for the church after he heard her play for the first time a few weeks ago in our house. She agreed but was so SCARED!!!!

Saturday night she asked me to make her a blazer because she said she needed to feel cool and a little rocker...lol for her performance on Sunday, so I drafted a quick blazer for her with (her words) shiny fabric on the collar stuff" lol.

This is her original song "My Melody" after she walked off stage she started balling her eyes out, she was so terrified but held it in until she was done :)

This is what wore, I made B5247, I made the belt wider and longer to do a complete wrap around. But my shoes are FIERCE!!!!!! LOL!!!
