Updates and PR: Pic Heavy

My DD wanted an outfit for an event she is going to with her daddy :) she wanted a high waisted skirt that flared and a cute top..lol

so she picked the patterns and the fabric choice (she did great!) and I made it for her on Sunday.
We used NL 6872 for the skirt and M5708 for the top and I made it sleeveless at her request.

You think she likes it..lol and look at her tiny little waist..omg!

I was at Target the other day and they had these tank dresses for $16.99, I was like whatever I can make 3 for that price (it's not always cheaper to make your clothes but sometimes it is)
so I went home took out an old tank and copied it and added length, there you have it, I love these.

It took like 1hr to make

We also got a doggie :)

and did you guys notice my faux hawk...lol I'm such a rebel :) never mind the white flaky stuff I had just had it cut and added some gel that I do not like and flakes... dont buy generic Paul Mitchell is all I'm saying..lol

Maxi Dress

I love getting emails telling me they used my video to make themselves a maxi dress :)

here is the most recent email I got:

Good morning Mimi: I just wanted to thank you so much for posting the Maxi Dress tutorial online. I am a quilter and I have recently felt an interest in making clothes. I wanted to start out making the Maxi Dresses that are in style now. So the picture attached is my very first Maxi Dresss you may see some imperfections...I just couldn't get my bust right...LOL! This is the first article of clothing that I have ever sewn. I am very proud of it. I used African Fabric instead of the material you recommended. However, since African Fabric is sort of stiff I see why you used the type of fabric you did. I will use your fabric choice next time! Nonetheless, you are a great instructor and the video was very easy to follow and I will be looking too cute this summer....LOL!

Take Care,Mi'Yata

Here she is, can you believe that she has never sewn clothes before this.

Pattern Collection

Adrienne posted about a post she read from someone who created a flickr of all her patterns, I thought that was a great idea so I started to do the same.

I started a new flickr and created sets based on type of garment instead of by big 4 company. They are not all in yet because I was doing it by memory but I will add what I am missing soon.

This is great because I can just look through my sets to see what Ihave instead of looking through my two huge pattern cabinets..lol I still have tons and i mean TONS more to add, I have a problem with pattern sales too Adrienne..lmao

go check it out HERE

Pattern Description: Close-fitting, lined dress with gathered bodice, flounce, shoulder straps, tie ends, invisible zipper closing and above mid-knee length.

Pattern Sizing: Size 4

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? They are easy but there a lot of steps..lol

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I just like how girly it is :)

Fabric Used: I have no idea, something I got at G Street in DC

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? No prob not but with me you never know.

Conclusion: I like this dress, it easy to make but it is a bit time consuming I think it took me life 4 hours from start to finish, cutting out the pieces, cutting linings, gathering, etc...
but it's worth it. I love the ruffles that created in the back of the dress, it's super cute.

Fit...mess

I mean fitness...lol

I love all the "you skinny Bitch emails" you guys sent me...lol but on the real, im going to share with you my new favorite thing. I joined a fitness bootcamp which meets three days a week but the other 3 days I work out at home and i rest one day.
so this is my new best friend: Totally Fit by Mel B. Yes! the spice girl, lmao
but dont get it twisted, this video is my favorite and I own all of them, every workout video out there I have it.

But this by far is the most entertaining, the most diverse and it lets you build your daily workout. in the main menu you choose for example: Arms, Legs, Abs then you hit go and will play those segments for you.

If you want to make a $9 investment in yourself this would be the video to get, i ordered mine through amazon.
good luck

Were the instructions easy to follow? You don't even need them.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like everything about this.

Fabric Used: Striped Knit

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: The only thing I did different was the neck, they have you fold over 5/8" but I don't like that look so I cut out some bias strips and made binding for the neck.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? yes i will

Conclusion: I love this look, it is so easy to wear.

Pattern Description: Fitted, straight shorts

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 8

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn't use them, I have made these before.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love these shorts, they are really cute.

Fabric Used: Floral Print Stretch Sateen (from stash leftovers)

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I omitted the welt pockets on these.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will be making these again for summer. I don't like shorts that come up above my knee so these are great.

Conclusion: Love them!

Back View and Tip: I have a sway back and even sometimes with the CB adjustment it still bothers me because if you take in too much it acts wonky and I have a significant curve in my lower back so I take a piece of elastic 1/2 wide and 2" long and stretch just across the CB and this works great with out creating and gathering.

Pattern Review B5351 Version A

Here is View A minus pockets: Review (above)

Pattern Review: B5324

Pattern Description: Lined dresses A, B in two lengths have pleated upper front, princess seams, front midriff, skirt with front pleats and back darts, back invisible zipper, back slit and shoulder straps. A: length is 2" above mid-knee. B: evening length.

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 6 or the bodice and graded to an 8 at the hips.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? These instructions were actually pretty damn easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved this pattern when I first saw it but I also knew that it was a little formal and I dont do formal to often but I bought it anyway.

After looking at it for months I thought to myself "self , if you use a casual fabric instead of something fancy I bet you could pull it off as a more casual summer dress" so I did...lol

Fabric Used: "Chambray" is a closely woven plain weave fabric mostly made from cotton. It is soft and smooth with a slight luster. It wears well and is easy to sew and launder. It is lightweight, yet strong fabric with a denim look.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: The pattern did not need a single fit adjustment, I was blown away, the only thing I did was graded to an 8 at the hip.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I don think I will sew it again but it is a great dress and just keep in mind that you can make a dress a lot more everyday simply by your choice of fabric...and shoes, Im going to wear it with wedges.

Conclusion: Loves it!

Kwik..

I have only used a kwik sew pattern once before (a wrap dress) but Adrienne has hipped me to few kwik sew patterns that I am really feeling right now so I went to the website to see what else they had.

I found a few I really liked and a few I didnt. I am really into pantsuits (jumpsuits) right now but Overalls and Jumpsuits are VERY different...lol

If I see anyone making this pattern I may just have to delete you from my blogroll...lol!!!

(for those sensitive folks I'm just being funny) but overalls never looked good even in the 80's and 90's..lol
