DIY Dress: Pattern Review McCalls 6553

Happy Monday!

Today was a chance to wear the latest dress I made using M6553, It is a super comfy dress to wear and so cute!

Here is my result!

Pattern Description: Very loose-fitting, pullover dress has princess seams, self-lined yoke back, side openings for self belt, back pleats/ neck slit with button/thread loop closing, and shaped hemline.

Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes 

Were the instructions easy to follow? They were pretty simple but if I make it again I will use RTW construction methods because she of the steps can be done better. 

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I was curious to see how the dress looked made up aside from the photo of the model on the envelope so I went ahead an made it and love it, it is so comfy and cute and the shaped hemline is really nice. 

Fabric Used: I used a dress weight red gabardine 

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't make any but if I make it again I will remove the pleat in the back because I didn't like it after I made it and will replace it with gathers. 

Would you sew it again? I might in a jersey for a casual look. 

Would you recommend it to others? Yes!

I am going to change the yoke method on this pattern if I make it again, I also hate the pleat and would rather it have gathers.

What I Wore

I had this cute little skirt number all set for today and then I saw the weather and we are scheduled for a storm :-/ what in the world is going on in Cali! so I switched into my jeans and wrap. I made this wrap several weeks ago and wore it here and the jeans I picked up ages ago at Forever 21. I needed a pop of color today since it was dark and gloomy so I pulled out one of my favorite bags by Kate Spade, she has the greatest bag colors and the size of this bag is perfect, just big enough but not too big where I have to search endlessly like Mary Poppins in search of my keys ;-)

 BTW, Did you guys know that Kate Spade was the Senior Fashion Editor and Head of Accessories at Mademoiselle Magazine before she left to start her own company in 1991? she is truly one of my favorites! Kate really understands what women want in handbags and accessories and I really love her whimsical RTW collections too; they have a young, colorful and vibrant look about them and yet manage to be classic and elegant and very feminine which I love. I am dying for this Kate Spade Cardi!

Todays Vlog + What I Wore

What I Wore...

I am a huge fan of Zara and their blazers, pants, shoes, everything, lol I picked up my blazer a few weeks ago and love it! The forever 21 jeans are one of my favorites because of the wide bell bottom and I can always find great jeans at F21. I just picked up about 10 different tanks/t's from the GAP, I <3 Gap!

 What I Wore...Yesterday

Yesterday was a busy day and I needed comfort!

I gotta tell you every time I go to H&M I leave happy, lol they have really great stuff and it's a great place to find trendy items for your wardrobe. The denim jacket I have on is from American Eagle which is another place I frequent for great jeans and tops!

 Fabric Info

Many of you have asked where to find a print similar to the one I used in the pic above and my dear friend @ High End Fabrics just sent me several yards of this fabric which is pretty close (color wise) to my original print, it is gorgeous in person and has such a great hand; it is a Tencel Gabardine Woven Fabric. Here is his link ;-) 

Also, if you are ever looking for the best most fabulous fabrics make sure to visit www.gorgeousfabrics.com they carry an amazing assortment of fabrics and great prints/knits too. I can personally vouch for the quality and beauty of their fabrics.

Sewing Machine GIVEAWAY!!!!

Happy Sunday!!!

To celebrate my return home (I'm so dramatic, lol) I have decided that I need to stop hoarding sewing machines, it's a serious problem for me so because I just bought a new machine for myself and one for a friends daughter I decided that I would continue the charity! I would be feel so much better about my new purchase if I gifted my old machine to one of you fabulous followers!!

IM BACK!! Woot Woot!

Hi!!! 

OMG I have missed you guys but I am back and took today to rest up, I was BEAT. We drove home through the desert yesterday and I got so sunburned so bad it looked like someone had lit me on fire, LOL

Here are the last few pics from Vegas and what I did there and I will share some video of it during the next few posts but I wanted and needed to check in with you guys. I will be back to the regular scheduled program this weekend, lol and will be posting as usual. The long ass drive home! there was literally nothing in death valley except a gas station with a good ol' "cathouse" gotta love Nevada, LOL

The first thing I did today after sleeping in was go eat with the hubby, that food was amazing! I don't EVEN want to know how many calories I consumed, LOL the pic of the hubby after eating cracks me up!

Then we headed down to the fashion district for some fabric shopping therapy, I bought a lot of fabric! which I will share over the next few days. 

This is Pilar, she is the only person I let cut for me when I am at Michael Levins, she is so great and funny and has been cutting my fabric for at least 8 years. No matter how many people are waiting to get fabric cut she always leaves and comes to take care of me, LOVE her!

This is my ULTRA casual, I don't give a damn cuz I'm too tired to care look, don't ya love it? LOL!!! The pics on the right are of my favorite place at the Bellagio hotel, its like a little fantasy garden and I adore the hanging umbrellas ;-) The Bellagio also has this little coffee shop that has the most amazing cheese danish ever, I will post a pic when I make my way over there in the next day or so.

Umami Burger....Yum!

The hub's and I went to Umami Burger yesterday and can I say it was delicious! We ordered the Truffle Burger and the Manly Burger which had fried string onions and Bacon chunks! so good, if you've never been and are in LA you should visit.

Last Thursday we went to dinner @ Ruth's Chris in Beverly Hills, I was going to show you all the food but we scarfed down the starters so fast I forgot, LOL so you get a pic of empty plates. I ordered the Rib eye which was accompanied by asparagus and a crab cake covered in this awesome sauce!
