I have been obsessed with denim maxi's and lately I have had my eye on one from Diesel and one from True Religion, both are almost $300!!! yeah...no! so I decided to make my own versions of these skirts and show you how to make one in the process ;-) Here is the inspiration skirt

ReplyDeleteMy friend works for a company that recycles and sells old jeans back to clothing manufacturers. Truly, that is the only way they can make this maxi, is with OLD jeans.

You see this is exactly why I stalk your blog... you always come up with some really innovative and great ideas. I was thinking of transforming two of my pants into skirts for a long while now and, there you are. Your like an angel sent down from sewing heaven. ReplyDeleteBe still me heart! Now you just may be barking up my tree. Reconstructing my favorite staple: Denim, denim, more denim, and old denim! LOL I can't wait to watch this tutorial and take notes. I hope I can achieve this even with a couple pair of jeans that my 40 yr old thighs aren't quite comprehending me trying to squeeze them into 10 year old jeans anymore. LOL Ive been heading denim in the hopes of returning to that size comfortably. Le sigh. And I love how you make the simplest thing look so darn fabulous. ReplyDeleteJust finished watching the video and aside from how ridiculously easy you made reconstructing the jeans to skirt look, my eyes stars fixiated on those gorgeous green nails. LOL I really am led to pull out my daughters started machine and have her help me on what I'm planning on using as a start to my summer sewing endeavor. Send me all your crafty girl sewing vibes. I'm gonna need them. My youngest is 10 and yes we started her in private see lessons so I'm hoping she can offer me some assistance. Thank you for taking the time to teach your viewers step by step. ReplyDeleteI'm trying this asap. I've made 4 skirts maxi skirts and 2 maxi dresses. And tutored someone else on a maxi.LOL...that was funny, you should have been there.
Anyway I'm trying the denim maxi this weekend. My little micky-mouse sewing machine can't handle double denim I'm sure. So maybe I'll get some nice batik material for the center panel.

Oh my goodness!!! This is right up my alley. I have been wanting to make a jean skirt that had some sassiness. I had thought about the other one you did before,but I love these even better. I am definitely putting this on my to-do list. They look fabulously awesome!!!!

ReplyDeleteI really want to do this. You make it look like anyone can do it. I searched threw my closet yesterday and I don't have 2 pair of jeans that I don't wear anymore. :-( I do have a pair of True Religion that are to tight in the thigh area, but i'm to afraid to take a risk with such an expensive pair of jeans. Soooo I decided to check out the thrift store. I was over whelmed. Their items are not sized. I was frustrated and left. :-( It's looking like i'm going to have to purchase two pair of jeans to do this project.

ReplyDeleteOkay Mimi, I had a bag of clothes that I was about to give away with 2 perfect pairs of jeans for this project. I have pinned up the front and will be attempting to sew this on Friday for Saturday, I will reveal the finished project when I complete it! I have some ideas for this skirt. You have made my teenage daughter who has to wear a uniform to school a very happy young lady. We will be doing this with some of her khakis from last year and some thrifted khakis to change it up a little. I love this idea! Keep them coming.

DeleteI had just dug out the maternity clothes for the next go 'round. I found two BAD pairs of jeans handed down from a friend. And then I found your fabulous tutorial for inspiration. I now have a rockin' skirt that I will actually miss once the baby is born. :) Great work on the tutorial! It's so nice to watch a well put together video and it makes it so easy to whip up a project. My grandma made a mini skirt like this after I spotted one in Erin Brockavich, but this time I had to go it alone. Your excellent video gave me the confidence to jump right in on Friday afternoon. I raked in the complements at church on Sunday! (Sorry if this is a bit of a duplicate, I think blogger may have eaten my first comment and I'd rather praise you twice than not at all!)
