OOTD: #DIY Tribal Print Skirt + Denim Shirt

Hi Darlings!

We are almost through our skirt so tomorrow I will post Part 3 and Friday part 4! so excited to see all of your skirts ;-) This sewing basics tutorial has been the only sewing I have done for myself in over three weeks! I cant wait to get settled in so I can start making my yellow Easter dress ;-)

I made my skirt from of a 1.5" yard piece of FABRIC I had picked up at Joann's I initially was going to make a tank but decided on a skirt because I don't have enough skirts in my wardrobe. I made the skirt a while ago but it was too cold to wear it, however today in Cali it is 90 degrees!

I did not use a pattern and instead made it the same way I show you how to make the Regal Maxi; I just made it short and made the waistband thinner, everything else is the same...oh I omitted the pockets.

  1. Mimi, I do have a question about skirt construction for the ladies with a bit more backside. How do you adjust for the "lift" that occurs in the back? I made the short version and long versions of the maxi and have the same problem that the skirt looks like its leaning forward. Help?

    1. Easiest way to do this:

      1. gather and slip on the skirt, tie a piece of 1/4"-wide elastic around your waist (holding up the skirt. wearing the shoes you will probably wear with the skirt, stand in front of a mirror and pull the skirt waist up in the FRONT until the lower edge is an equal distance from the floor all the way around the skirt

      2. Mark along the elastic lower edge (on the front) for the new waist seamline. Trim the fabric above the line to a 5/8" seam allowance. Now you can se the waistband on to the skirt ;-)

  4. Mimi, this is a question completely unrelated to the post...I wanted to know what is the average yardage of fabric you purchase if you don't have a specific project in mind? I've run across some fabrics that I really like but didn't buy because I was unsure of how much I should purchase. As always thanks for you help!!
