DIY Tie Dye Dress + Pattern Info V1027

Hi Darlings!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I spent my weekend sewing my tail off and trying to get things in order before my flight tomorrow. I am headed to Miami as some of you know to speak at Hispanicize 2014, and I am super excited.

I made myself a few dresses for the week, but I will have very little time to photograph my looks so this week there will be many postings of my time in Miami, a #TBT and of course part #2 of the "Get To Know Us" video on Friday. Also, make sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with my trip since I do most of my postings there when I am traveling.

Now, this dress is so super cute!!! It is an old pattern by Vogue (V1027) but I have always loved it and since it is a quick sew and go dress I pulled it out of my archives. The fabric is so perfect for it, and since I wanted the dress to be a little flirtier I shortened it a bit. The fabric is a lightweight CRYSTAL TIE DYE KNIT with amazing colors! and it comes in FOUR different colorways; HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. Make sure to use my coupon code MIMI10 to get 10% off your purchase.

  6. This is so adorable..... I'm wondering how much fabric you need to subtract to make it shorter as you did.

  9. Hello Mimi! First and foremost, I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I discovered you through Pattern Review.com. Since this is an old pattern from Vogue, would you know offhand of any alternative patterns that would be good dupes for it, providing I am unable to locate it somewhere online? That fabric is adorable!

P.S. I have watched your DIY skirt tutorial video multiple times and will try making it as soon as I start to perfect my sewing prowess and get some fabric. What particular fabric did you use for the teal-colored skirt in that video, btw?

    Have a great day!

  10. Hi Mimi. Quick question. I ordered the yellow double peplum top from you and it arrived this weekend, very beautiful. Unfortunately I ordered a XL and I should have ordered a L. I understand there are no exchanges. My question is could I take it to have it taken in? I didn't know if places did that. I was gonna look for a tailoring spot near me. I love the top and want to wear it so badly. Thank you. Very pretty dress you have on, as always. ~Tyreese (i had to post this anouymous because I didn't know how to post with the other options)

  17. Now… it would take MIMI G to make tie-dye fabric look as refreshing as a warm summer’s day. Before I saw this gorgeous dress, hated tie-dye fabric, it felt like knives piercing my eyes. You are great at what you do MIMI, I love your look. You inspire me to be more creative and I enjoy reading your posts.

  19. Hey Mimi,

I love your blog (and your app!)

I was wondering if you could probably do some more work with patterns on your YouTube channel. (Like the skirt tutorial)

It would really help beginners with working with patterns. I really appreciate you sewing tips as well.

    Thanks in advance!

  22. Wow!!! These colors are perfect on you. As soon as I saw this dress on you, I purchased the fabric (in all colors) and the pattern as well. Mimi, you should consider modeling and be a trendsetter for those models who aren't stick thin and are very curvacious. .

  42. You have the uncunning ability to take a fabric one might find not so attractive and morphing it into a timeless piece. Please do an African print dress some day.

  43. I have just discovered your blog and I love it!!! You are inspiring me to learn to sew. I read you learn to sew section and you say stay away from Vogue patterns until you have more experience.

I love this dress. Is there another pattern which is similar to this but a little more simple as I learn. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  48. Ok, because of you I am taking this on as my first sewing project...I am in love with this dress..I am between a 12 and 14 because of the chest area...Do you recommend I get the size up...I know the fabric I would use would be very giving...which is why I am considering the 12.
