#TBT DIY Chiffon Print Maxi Skirt

Hi Darlings!

Well It's another #TBT of one of my most popular posts in 2012. This skirt is the same exact skirt as my Regal Maxi Skirt Tutorial but I made it in a chiffon fabric and lined it. Sewing both the chiffon and lining together and continuing as instructed int he video. You can get the Regal Maxi Tutorial HERE.

The fabric is no longer available but here are some gorgeous options for POLYESTER CHIFFON PRINTS and SILK CHIFFON PRINTSThe top is an OOP (out of print) New look pattern that you could probably find on Ebay or Esty (New Look 6149)

  1. Love your take on the regal maxi, it looks different everytime! Was wondering, when you cut out a pattern that you keep and reuse, do you cut it out of fabric or does the paper pattern last well over time?

    1. I just keep the paper patterns, they last just fine in the envelope.

  14. Hi Mimi, I have been sewing for years, but only for others and for children. Since finding out about you, I have been inspired to sew for myself, and feel so much better when I go out even if its to Walmart. I want to thank you for inspiring me, I really needed it, I look forward to sewing everyday not to mention can use the fabric that I have, but it has not stopped me from buying more fabric. Not sure if you will give me the info, on the Regal Maxi Skirt did you follow the pattern and only changed the length of the skirt and the width of the waistband and added belt loops only, are were there more changes?

  16. I absolutely love everything you create! I have wanted to replicate a wrap around maxi skirt that I have had for a few years; however my sewing skills are extremely limited. Hopefully, I'll be successful at creating a maxi skirt with your wonderful tutorial(s). Do you find that sewing your own clothes is more costly than purchasing off the rack (fabric now costs just as much as a completed garment) vs years ago when sewing was a way to save money?

    1. Hi Tiffany! Thank you so much. I have never sewn to save money so I would have to say no I don't save anything unless you consider buying a 2,000 designer jacket vs making it for $500 lol I spend as much money on fabric as I do retail shopping ;-) I sew for fit and style. xoxox

  22. What kind of fabric did you use to line the skirt? I also want to thank you for sharing you great talent with us. I just started sewing two weeks ago and have completed the regal maxi skirt, 2 skirts and the fishtail maxi. I am currently working on the peplum top. I also did the diy jean jacket And then plan to make the maxi dress next week.

  23. Hey Mimi would you please consider doing a tutorial for the top in this picture or just more tops in general. I love the recent one you posted with the block colors. I have found an abundance of dress and skirt tutorials but, not near as many done for tops. Thanks in advance!

  25. Hey Mimi! I love your stuff!! I am getting ready to make the Regal Maxi to wear to my sons graduation and I have looked high and low for the wrap shirt pattern and I can not find it on either of the recommended websites so I am on the hunt for another pattern similar. Anywho, what fabric did you use for the top?
