Hi Darlings!
So about two years ago we decided to move back to the city. We rented a place we could live with until we found a place that best suited us, and in the city that is hard to do. 6 months ago we found a place we liked that was just on the outskirt of the city but close enough to downtown, where I spend a lot of time (fabric/fashion district), so we moved and settled in. Soon after we found that the property community management folks were awful and negligent, so the dilemma began. Trying to get things fixed was a nightmare. The neighbors are out of control, and mind you we live in the suburbs in a gated community!! ugh. So letter after letter, complaint after complaint, broken water pipes & soaked rugs then mold build up I just could NOT take it (especially for the money we pay every month) goodness.
After trying to get the situation rectified with management and having ZERO response I began looking at BRAND NEW developments that had options to buy. I should have done this to start with but you know sometimes God has a different plan then you. So after some due diligence on our part we found an amazing place with so much room and no one has ever lived in our home. EVERYTHING is NEW! and now I have two work spaces, a studio set up for filming and a separate workspace for my own personal stuff, and an entire room that I am converting into a walk in closet! When an opportunity presents itself be ready and take action! This weekend was crazy with the moving and this week will be no different so just bare with me while I get it together.
The first thing I put in order is my bedroom because if I don't sleep comfortable I am not a happy camper, lol I just have some artwork to put up and a few little trinkets and I am set. My bedding is a mix of Bed, Bath and Beyond HERE, Nate Berkus HERE from Target and some Home pillows from Goods.
Thank goodness Ikea sells extra shelves so you can customize your Billy Bookcases (HERE) because not only do I need 4 more shelves I need another bookcase, lol!
This is my filming space ;-) the table is perfect and because it is a "build it yourself" sorta thing it was perfect! The LINNMON table is 78" long and can be found HERE (also in black/brown) the NIPEN legs are so pretty and can be found HERE. The middle piece is perfect for my pins, nippers, zippers, presser feet etc. The ALEX drawer unit is HERE. The leather chair is from Staples and the above desk shelves are EKBY found HEREMore pics and links after I am finished.
I like... great job.. The closet is going to be beast when it is done..
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla, I may just sleep on the floor in there when it is done, LOL

DeleteIs that where you leave your sewing machine? The reason I ask is that I am in the process of finding a sewing table and am wondering if this works well or not for you? Your shoe collection is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Its my workspace ;-)
DeleteGirl, I thought I was a shoe freak but you got me beat! cant wait to see final resuls.

DeleteYou said your rug is "darn cute", but I think it is as cute as a button!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Thanks Ann
DeleteThanks for sharing that awesome testimony! God is Awesome! Your workspace looks great!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Love this! Why have I never thought to use bookcases for shoes? I am going to try this in my new home next year!
ReplyDeleteLOL, they work great and if they have the extra shelves like idea then it works even better.
DeleteVery nice! I love Ikea for the furniture in my sewing room. I have two of their 'Expedit' 5x5 units next to each other with a drawer unit in between. I then have 2 of the 'Expedit' desk pieces about three feet apart, one coming off each 5x5 unit. I have my sewing machine on one, the serger on the other and my chair in between. I then get to spin round from one machine to the other without having to get up. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I am lucky enough to be living in our second new home - I just love knowing that any dirt around the house/marks on the wall etc is OUR dirt/marks on the wall etc., ! I am sure you new home will soon be looking great, with everything in its correct place!

DeleteAwesome! I love shelving idea. I can't wait to see it all together I know it's going to be amazing! It already looks fantastic. And thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI turned a room into a closet for the "sole" purpose of doing a shoe wall like you did. Besides I don't like furniture in my bedroom. Then I gave away most of my shoes :(. I'm slowly but surely building my stock again. I can't wait to do the room over the way I really want to see it. Excellent job with the filming space. I want to turn another one of my rooms into a craft room and I just got a really good idea from your pick. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLooks great so far. I am loving you pattern mixture and colors on your bed. I'll be happy when we are done with apartment living (the worse) so I have room to organize my shoes like yours! Thanks for sharing =)
ReplyDeleteYou are truly blessed Mimi. Your bedroom is such a reflection of you....sunny and cheerful. Then your walk in closet room.....LOVIN IT!! The Billy shelves are exactly the ones I was telling you about. From the fabric, chairs, etc., I can already see the vision. Will you be putting the shelves up in the back? So happy to see your progress.....you've been busy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! yes, there is a lot going on, lol
DeleteI love these! I'm in the process of creating a sewing room and just bought some Expedit cases from Ikea to store my books and supplies on. I got the idea to go check out Ikea for my room when you showed us a tutorial of your new cutting table using the dressers. Thanks for sharing your different projects!
ReplyDeleteLooking good! Can't wait until you're done. You're so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so beautiful, I love your style. I love the mixed of colors and patterns in your bedroom, would love to do something like this in our (my husband and I) bedroom because it needs a change. And OMG those shoes, I can't wait to see the finished closet.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your closet! My mom always told me that sunlight damages and fades clothing with continued direct exposure. Purchasing or sewing some light blocking curtains would be a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your closet! My mom always told me that exposure to sunlight damages or fades clothing. Buying or sewing some light blocking curtains would be a great investment to protect your beautiful clothing. :-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your closet. What kind of machine is that next to your sewing machine?
