Hi Darlings!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I spent my weekend sewing my tail off and trying to get things in order before my flight tomorrow. I am headed to Miami as some of you know to speak at Hispanicize 2014, and I am super excited.
I made myself a few dresses for the week, but I will have very little time to photograph my looks so this week there will be many postings of my time in Miami, a #TBT and of course part #2 of the "Get To Know Us" video on Friday. Also, make sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with my trip since I do most of my postings there when I am traveling.
Now, this dress is so super cute!!! It is an old pattern by Vogue (V1027) but I have always loved it and since it is a quick sew and go dress I pulled it out of my archives. The fabric is so perfect for it, and since I wanted the dress to be a little flirtier I shortened it a bit. The fabric is a lightweight CRYSTAL TIE DYE KNIT with amazing colors! and it comes in FOUR different colorways; HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. Make sure to use my coupon code MIMI10 to get 10% off your purchase.

I've made that pattern three times (and will probably make many more in future). It's the best dress!
ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable..... I'm wondering how much fabric you need to subtract to make it shorter as you did.
ReplyDeleteat least 1/2 yard
Deleteapproximately how much fabric is needed for the shorter length in total? I am trying to get an idea of how much I will need to purchase.
DeleteThat fabric made that pattern. Because that fabric is beautiful and that dress is gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for summer!! U look beautiful as always! X x ;)
ReplyDeleteHello Mimi! First and foremost, I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I discovered you through Pattern Review.com. Since this is an old pattern from Vogue, would you know offhand of any alternative patterns that would be good dupes for it, providing I am unable to locate it somewhere online? That fabric is adorable!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have watched your DIY skirt tutorial video multiple times and will try making it as soon as I start to perfect my sewing prowess and get some fabric. What particular fabric did you use for the teal-colored skirt in that video, btw?
Have a great day!
Elaine
Hi Elaine,
DeleteThe pattern is still very much available online, I linked to it in the post and it is on sale ;-) go to the vogue patterns site or click the link in the post. Not sure which tutorial you are referring too doll. I don't remember a teal skirt.
xoxo
It's your tutorial on sewing a skirt. There are 4 parts to it. The 2nd video is on Vimeo. Here's the link (Sewing 101): http://www.mimigstyle.com/p/free-online-sewing-class.html#.UzrKgPldVAI
DeleteHi Mimi. Quick question. I ordered the yellow double peplum top from you and it arrived this weekend, very beautiful. Unfortunately I ordered a XL and I should have ordered a L. I understand there are no exchanges. My question is could I take it to have it taken in? I didn't know if places did that. I was gonna look for a tailoring spot near me. I love the top and want to wear it so badly. Thank you. Very pretty dress you have on, as always. ~Tyreese (i had to post this anouymous because I didn't know how to post with the other options)
ReplyDeleteHi! yes you can take it the cleaners and have them do the alteration for you ;-)

ReplyDeleteLovely!! I live in Miami - which panel are you speaking on at Hispanicize? I couldn't find you! xoxo!
ReplyDeleteNow… it would take MIMI G to make tie-dye fabric look as refreshing as a warm summer’s day. Before I saw this gorgeous dress, hated tie-dye fabric, it felt like knives piercing my eyes. You are great at what you do MIMI, I love your look. You inspire me to be more creative and I enjoy reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteFabric sold out already!!! BUMMER
ReplyDeleteHey Mimi,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog (and your app!)
I was wondering if you could probably do some more work with patterns on your YouTube channel. (Like the skirt tutorial)
It would really help beginners with working with patterns. I really appreciate you sewing tips as well.
Thanks in advance!
I do not sew, but I love this dress. Can I buy the dress already made?
ReplyDeleteThe fabric choice really makes the pattern pop! I would have never seen the potential in that fabric but you made me a believer!

ReplyDeleteWow!!! These colors are perfect on you. As soon as I saw this dress on you, I purchased the fabric (in all colors) and the pattern as well. Mimi, you should consider modeling and be a trendsetter for those models who aren't stick thin and are very curvacious. .
ReplyDeleteWow! I am dying for this dress! I will be ordering this fabric. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteJust fabulous! I ordered the pattern and the fabric in this color and the blue and brown. Can't wait to have the dresses made. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat kind of material is the belt to this dress and were can I purchase it? Im going to attempt to make this dress
ReplyDeleteYou have the uncunning ability to take a fabric one might find not so attractive and morphing it into a timeless piece. Please do an African print dress some day.
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered your blog and I love it!!! You are inspiring me to learn to sew. I read you learn to sew section and you say stay away from Vogue patterns until you have more experience.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. Is there another pattern which is similar to this but a little more simple as I learn. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
The fabric is no longer available. Is it another site where I may purchase?

ReplyDeleteHi MiMi did you use a lining with this fabric for the dress?
ReplyDeleteOh, my I'm in love with this dress. I must have. I am going to have my mom make for me to wear to a summer fashion show...The colors are perfect...Thanks.........
ReplyDeleteOk, because of you I am taking this on as my first sewing project...I am in love with this dress..I am between a 12 and 14 because of the chest area...Do you recommend I get the size up...I know the fabric I would use would be very giving...which is why I am considering the 12.
