Using a Serger + T-Shirt Maxi Tutorial Reviewed!

Hi darlings, I swear I am having the worst few days...you know those times when it seems like things just keep going wrong, lol my hubby tells me it is just god testing my patience ;-)

I cant quite figure out why on earth it is taking google/blogger to fix this problem which just makes my stomach turn when I look at my blogger stats and see the amount of traffic now that the custom domain is not working, it kills me but what can I do. If I move the blog now it will just cause more confusion so instead I have decided to transfer my domain and when that happens (takes a few days) I will point the mimigstyle.com domain wherever I need to.  BUT because I did not want to go another day without posting just because the platform I use is incompetent I am just going to continue posting and hope everyone can find me until it gets worked out.

Review of T-Shirt Maxi Tutorial

I'm so excited to share this pic and review from a blog follower and blogger herself Kelly H. who did an amazing job on the T-shirt Maxi Tutorial and wrote all about it! I am most excited because it highlights one thing that I get asked often about if my tutorials work for plus size women because many go based on the image I use of myself for the tutorials and this is a fabulous and sexy example of how my tutorial works for women of all sizes and shapes.

(if you have made the maxi dress also please send me pics so I can share)

From Kelly: This tutorial is AMAZING!!! It is extremely well done and offers something for the experienced sewist, the novice and everyone in between. Not only does Mimi walk you through each step of creating the dress from an existing garment, you'll also learn how to create your own pattern, make the dress without a paper pattern, technique for installing sleeves, neck binding and how to make fit adjustments. Learning these techniques alone make this tutorial worth every penny of the $10.99. I've sewn for nearly 30 years and it took me years to master some of these things and this is my first time copying an existing garment. Mimi talks you through each step, explains WHY she's doing what she's doing and if that wasn't enough, she actually constructs her dress while you watch. The real beauty of this tutorial is that this dress looks great on all body types because you start with a T-shirt that you already know fits you the way you like. If you haven't already gotten your download please do you won't regret it! This will definitely be a wardrobe staple. I already have many other versions planned.

Using a Serger

  2. Hi Mimi,
Two weeks ago I was in a fabric store looking for fabric to make another pencil skirt as well as the maxi skirt using your tutorials. I turned around and the girl standing next to me was reading your blog on her phone and looking for fabric to make a dress like one you'd worn. We both stopped and started talking about how much we love you and your blog (we live in NY).

Sorry for the problems you've been having. Hopefully they'll be resolved soon. In the mean time, do not stress it, I'm sure all of your readers like me, look for you on FB, Pinterest and at blogspot, cause we love your blog.

Thank you for all of the tutorials (love them all). They are great! I'll send pics of my dress when I make it. Thanks for sharing all of the wonderful information that you do. Look forward to seeing the new site.

P.S. I'm a systems analyst, so if you ever need help testing your site or things of that nature, I can help with that :)

  5. Your post are coming up just fine for me in Google Reader as well. I loved reading what Kelly had to say and seeing her dress. I don't really have a need for t-shirt maxi, but hell I'm thinking I might need to order it just for your secret tips.

  11. Hey Mimi, I just purchased your tut and can't wait to make a t-shirt maxi (or maybe a knee length dress) for fall. Kelly's dress looks great and gives me the confidence to work with knits, something I've rarely done. Thanks.

  13. Hi Mimi, sorry to hear about the probs your having, I'm sure us followers will find you no matter what happens or where you go. I know there are quite a few of us that followed you from blogspot to wordpress back to blogspot again, so don't think you're gonna loose us so easily.

That being said, love the dress. It really is flattering to every figure.

  15. I'm sorry about the domain problems that you are having Mimi. I tried to go the the mimigstyle.com one and panicked because I couldn't get my dose of "mimigspiration" (yes, I also have a folder with all your downloadable tutorials saved under that name too). So I found you on Pintrest, discovered you'd done it again, and promptly went to Google to find your facebook for an update. I'm ordering your tutorial right now and cannot wait to start sewing tomorrow! God definitely has a way of testing patience but He's also good at giving that extra nudge. I think there must be something new and wonderful waiting for you in the future. Thanks for the mimig-spiration : )

  17. Thanks so much Mimi for including my pics on your blog. Thank all of you for your kind comments. Just another reason I love the supportive sewing/blogging community. Such a timely video on serger threading/use. I sewed this entire dress on the serger because my sewing machine kept eating my fabric.

  18. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this serger vid you posted for ME!!! Yes, I am taking it personally! lol. I was just given a serger by an aunt who moved to Cali and I have been scared to touch the darn thing! She just gave it to me and then left! I didn't get a quick tutorial on how to thread it or anything! YIKES!!! I was happy to have it and so was my fiance! If she hadn't given me the serger now, one would have surely been on my X-Mas list for him to get. LOL! I just didn't know what to do with it, but I feel encouraged to give it a shot now. So thanks again!

BTW, Kelly is rocking that dress! :-)

I love, love, love this!!! Green is my favorite color. Looks like it's time to break out the sewing machine!

  20. Just because i saw this picture of Kelly with the dress on, I am going to purchase the tutorial. Because when I saw it on you I thought there was no way it would look good on me.. Shout out to kelly for doing the review and thank you for being awesome enough to make it..

  21. BTW, i had to give the ladies at my job the link to your blog because they were stalking my cubicle like you had moved and i did not tell them.

  22. I LOVE your blog! Your sense of style is amazing! What I love most, though, is that you don't seem to be arrogant--for lack of a better term--in your look and your posts. I think that you are probably the most fashionable person whose blog I follow and yet your posts always seem "down to earth". And though I don't sew (yet), your blog really makes me want to do so! Also, thanks for posting about Kelly and her pics of the t-shirt maxi! As a plus size woman, I was hesitant to buy the tutorial! Seeing her made me wanna go ahead and buy it and try it! Thanks to you, and to Kelly!
