Be Thankful

Feeling Blessed.

Late last night we went to have dinner at Olive Garden and the service/food was just terrible for whatever reason (usually they are great) anyway the manager comped us and gave me a $50 gift card! to come back so as we left and were pulling out of the drive way I saw a man holding a sign "Out of work dad, need help feeding family" I told the hubby to go to the ATM machine so I could get cash and by the time we did that and came back he was gone.

I usually only give money when I feel compelled to, it's something I usually will feel and I FELT HIS PAIN. He had a look I could NOT get out of my head and I felt TERRIBLE that we missed him and had a hard time sleeping thinking of him on that corner.

Today I went back to the same shopping center and was rushing buying gifts that I had forgot all about that man and as I started to pull out of the driveway I saw him! so I turned the corner (on a busy street) parked the car and ran out in my heels after him. I told him how much I though of him yesterday and how terrible I felt and handed him the cash I taken out and the $50 gift card that we were gifted the night before. His eyes were filled with tears and he thanked me.

My heart was happy and sad at the same time wishing I could fix whatever had happen to him but I left feeling blessed and thankful for my life.

  2. You did what Jesus commanded us to do. You fed the least of these.

  5. Beautiful....reminds me of one of the verses in the bible that I always try to keep in my head. The most powerful line to me is the last one (40). Have a great day and god bless.

    Matthew 25:31-40

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

  6. Doesn't your heart just wanna BUST when you do something good. God did that on purpose. Love your story.

  7. What a very kind and generous thing to do, Mimi. I too often think of the people I see regularly. I don't always give but like you said if I feel a tugging in my spirit then I will. You never know who's scamming and who's not but ultimately there's nothing you can do about it. You just do the good that's in your heart and trust God to handle the rest.

One day I was sitting at a red light and I saw a lady holding a sign. It said she was a mother of 3 and had fallen on hard times. She was standing near a busy intersection and I could tell that it was a really hard decision for her to make to go and stand out there. She would hide her face behind her sign and periodically she would peek from behind the sign. I began to think about my life as a single mother and how life had been hard at times but I thank God that I never had to live on the streets or in a homeless shelter. Never had to beg for food or send my child to bed hungry. I emptied out my wallet and gave her all the cash I had. It wasn't much but it was more than she had and I know that God honored my effort.

Thank you for the reminder of how blessed we all are. Even when we have problems in our lives, it could always be a lot worse.

  13. When we are blessed were supposed to be a blessing to others and that is what you did. You are awesome! I always feel good when I give and I never expect anything in return I believe its just what were supposed to do for one another.

  14. Mimi, so wonderful that you could bless that man and his family! I had a similar situation with two 20-somethings who were standing outside of a Walmart parking lot, really looking like they needed help. All I had was a few bucks, but I held up the line leaving the store to give it to them. They thanked me profusely and I was happy to give them SOMETHING. My kids wanted to know why - so it became a fantastic opportunity to talk to them about brotherly kindness! Love covers a multitude of sins - and loving our neighbor is a requirement. Good for you and hope your holidays are wonderful!

  21. "it is better to give than to receive." It is a great thing to be thankful everyday for the Blessings that we do have in our lives. Sometimes its not till u see others and their struggles do we realize that our situation is TRULY BLESSED. God is good all the time......and you know the rest...........
