OOTD: DIY Throwback Coat + Swarovski Elements Cool App

Hi Darlings! I had the hubby go to storage and pull out my winter coats because I had no idea what I had in those boxes and while looking through the piles I found a coat I made years ago. I forgot all about it, lol. This was a Hilary Duff Pattern from 2007 and I still love this coat although I will say that I need to go through those tubs of clothes and coats in storage and give a lot of stuff away because it is taking up so much room and clearly I am not missing any of it.

I really would love to do a pattern review but the pattern is no longer available although you may be able to find it at a local Joann and ebay has a few too. I love the details of the coat because I remember spending a lot of time on it. It is fully lined and even has bound buttonholes. Making sure to take extra care in construction helps your garments hold up over the years and this baby has held up pretty well since 2008 when I made it.

This is the coat turned inside out. It has a full lining

I made bound buttonholes using the wool fabric so it would show on the right side since you can see the inside collar and the sleeve cuffs too.

Wearing this coat makes me feel girly and happy, LOL

Swarovski  Elements Magazine App

I read a lot of  magazines on my ipad and iphone and I came across a really cool magazine by Swarovski Elements and though I would share. I did not realize how much fashion/apparel info was in this magazine but after enjoying the cool runway videos within the app and the beading article on couture I was sold, and its FREE too!

Here are some screenshots and a link to the app in iTunes: http://bit.ly/NAjCC5

  1. The coat pattern I remember! I'm going to have to search in my lovely collection to see if I have it. If I remember the Duff version was red with some black cut outs on it...right?

  5. So cute. I remember when you posted about it back in the day. I have that pattern in my stash. It keeps falling lower and lower on my ever growing to sew list. My ones goal this winter is to make a winter coat.

  8. Again, the fabric, the soft subtle greenish color with the orange sweater is so dang cute. Love it. You should maybe auction your old clothes and give the money to charity? Is that too much work, should I shut it? Happy Holidays MiMi!

  9. Oh I just love this coat, and I'm not a fan much of bubble hems! This is a bubble hem done so right that I'm considering picking up the pattern.

  18. What a lovely jacket. I really like the bound button holes. I must try that next time I make a coat. I have some cord in my fabric stash that I may just make into a coat for next winter. It is a little too hot where I live to think about coats at the moment though!
