I hope you have been having a great week, I have been working feverishly trying to catch up because on top of everything that I have to get done we are also moving yay! FINALLY, we found a nice house in a wonderful gated community and we cannot wait to move and get settled in. I am also so excited at the amazing sponsors that we have for the 2nd Annual Sewing, Fashion & Style Event in July. Which also brings me to my next announcement, I had a waiting list of those who did not register in time and although I expected the registration to be open a bit longer we sold out so quickly and then got overbooked, lol so I MUST stop accepting any more attendees, I'm sorry but if I have any cancellations I will post it.
Now on to my OOTD (outfit of the day) I have been wanting a fishtail maxi for a while now but couldn't find one I liked and since I needed to work out the kinks a few weeks ago for a new tutorial in April (hint) I made a mock up sample for myself. I also had made this top using out of print pattern Butterick 5562 (still available online)
Pattern Sizing: I cut the x-small but still had to take it in about 1" on each side because it was pretty loose on me.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Oh yeah, this is a great pattern and the gathered sleeves is so cute and easy so it sews up pretty quickly.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the sleeves in view A
Fabric Used: I used a great striped Knit found HERE, I love this fabric. It is a vicose/spandex blend and has a silky soft feel.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I created a facing to create the band look I wanted at the neckline. I do not like the fold over method for finishing necklines that is often suggested in the pattern instructions, that NEVER looks good.
Would you sew it again? I think I might.
Once I work out some of the changes for this maxi and an additional flare I want to add I can finish the tutorial.
Necklace (gifted) / Sunnies from ASOS (old)
looks great!
ReplyDeleteMimi,
ReplyDeleteIs the skirt from a pattern or your own creation?
No pattern just me. Tutorial coming soon
DeleteMimi, you look AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou Rock Girlie! Congrats on your move! I know you're closet space is going to be nice and accomodating for all your new projects!!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Thanks
DeleteHi Mimi,
ReplyDeleteVery nice look. ok so I have question. I want to be able to sew for myself a skirt, pants, etc. my current waist is plus size but when I look up even plus size pattern waist measurements I don't see my measurement. I realize ready to wear is different than actual pattern measurements. Would you offer some advice on how I can decipher which pattern size is best for me?
Have you watched the first 3 lessons in the sewing series? also what is the measurement you cant seem to find for your waist?
DeleteI'm in the same boat as Song. My waist is 42. I rarely see patterns big enough. I LOVE the Burda pants you made last year. I want to make them, but Burda laughs at my needed to go that big. I'm super new to sewing. Too new to understand altering patterns to increase waist size. Something tells me just adding the extra inches I need would get me nowhere. If ever you had the time (and I know you don't), to do a tutorial on altering patterns, I would love it.
DeleteWOW! This is very classy Mimi, you are truly blessed and keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLove this, especially the skirt! Gonna keep a look out for the tutorial!

Right now I'm 49" waist. Apple shaped in route to trimming down. however until then...how can I alter patterns to make up for my current waist.
ReplyDeleteto answer your question, I've viewed all 3 lessons. I'm actually cutting fabric this weekend.Decided to make the skirt for my daughter as her waist measures 37".

ReplyDeleteMiMi congrats on your new home with hubby:) When you created the neckline- did you cut out facing, rolled the material over the facing and used a straight stitch?
