This dress is #2 of the 4 items I made last Saturday and I LOVE it! I had to make some adjustments to the pattern which I detail below in the review but overall I really love this one and the fabric I got in NY from Kashi @Metrotextiles is perfect for it.

Pattern Sizing: I cut size 6 and still had to adjust the fit, it was too big, but he princess seams made it easy to take in.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope when you were done? Yep
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they are actually pretty easy to follow along and the pattern pieces come together quickly.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the one shoulder bodice but did not like the skirt with front pleats. I knew it had potential.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I removed the pleats and replaced them with darts because I don't like pleats on pants or skirts, it creates fullness in the front of the dress which no one needs, lol
Would you sew it again? I may use the top for a jumper I want to make.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes, with adjustments.
OMG that does not look like a knit fabric! This dress is beautiful. I don't know if I would have bough the pattern If I had not seen your version. Love the darts instead of pleats. Once again Mimi you rock girl!

ReplyDeleteThis style looks great on you! I would have never guessed it was knit either! Do you have trouble with pattern bodice tops not fitting at the top? I have that problem and have to adjust my zipper. I think there must be a better way.
ReplyDeleteAlways, the tops never fits me, they are always too big. You need to remove the excess evenly on all seams not the zipper ;-)

DeleteWOW, this is gorgeous! I thought the fabric was cotton sateen, not a double knit. You find the best double knits. What is the difference between ponte knits and double knits in your opinion? I really LOVE the way your clothes fit, you've inspired me to start thinking about the fit of what I may now instead of just getting it done quickly.
ReplyDeletePonte is a double knit. Ponte was upon inception 100% polyester but has evolved over the years with Rayon and spandex added into the mix. Ponte usually has a little less stretch and in my opinion not as soft as the sophia double knits I tend to use.

DeleteI have looked at this pattern many times...but, my imagination would not let me look past that ugly blue dress on the front. I have had the pattern for a couple of years now, recently took it out and put it back, lol! I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS THE SAME PATTERN! Fabric is everything!

ReplyDeleteEven though you are thin, I think it was wise to convert the pleats to darts. This is another winner. I have never seen anything that looks bad on you. I made a big mistake today as I went to the Vogue pattern website for the first time and was astounded how much less expensive the patterns are on there than at Jo-Ann's. I picked out about 12-15 that I would love to have, so maybe, if I sell a few more fabrics that I put on Etsy. Your freckles are great.
