OOTD: DIY Blanket Jacket + Pattern Review V8696

Hi darlings! Thank you so much for the comments on my post yesterday, I am happy if it helps even one person to feel encouraged so having reached so many is just an even bigger blessing!

I have had this piece of fabric in my stash since my trip to San Fran earlier this year and I couldn't wait to make something with it. I knew that I wanted to make a blanket inspired jacket and since the plaid is a large scale plaid it was easy to match up. I choose to work with Vogue Pattern 8696 and reviewed it below and on PR.

Would you sew it again? Yes! I plan to make several of these for my "California Winter"

Gap Green Khaki's & DIY Top + Updates

Happy Friday! Well what a week I have been having right? geez. So a quick update on the blog, it seems that many of you had me bookmarked by the original "blogspot" address so you have been able to find me pretty quickly and some who only knew me as "mimigstyle.com" are still getting google 404 errors. Google says they are working on it so until then I am still very much visible via www.mimigoodwin.blogspot.com please make sure to let your friends know for me...good thing is once the custom domain is fixed the "blogspot" address will still continue to work too.

Okay, enough about stuff I cant control and on to what I can control, MY LOOK! lol I promise you that GAP is not paying me to shop there and review....BUT maybe they should because I am loving me some GAP right now...GAP, you listening?? *wink* The top I have on is from my Spring 2010 collection, I am going to release it as a pattern soon ;-)

What I Wore | My DVF Dress

My Pretty Woman Dress
yes, the movie

Good Morning!!!

It is sunny and lovely outside today and I am in such a good mood I had to pull out my DVF wrap dress.
I bought this dress two years ago while shopping in NYC and I can't tell you how quickly I fell in love with the print. DVF is one of my most favorite designers because she truly understands how to dress a woman.

I know that I wrote about this two years ago when I bought the dress but I wanted to explain why I call this my "Pretty Woman Dress" When I walked into the DVF store in the meat packing district I was so excited but I had been out shopping and site seeing all day so I looked a little "relaxed" jeans, sneakers etc.

When I walked into the store I was given the cold shoulder just like they did to Julia Roberts, as if to say "you don't look like you could afford to be in here" AS IF! (I really couldn't but I was buying a damn dress not matter what the price that day) the problem was that I really wanted this wrap dress and I was determined to ignore them and enjoy the experience so off I went into the dressing room. Can I tell you that they DID NOT want to help me, LOL

I had a moment in the dressing room where I was inspecting the construction and thought "geez I could sew this up myself" but there is NO WAY I could recreate her print because she is genius! so I tried on my dress and it fit like a glove, not to mention that DVF has vanity sizing so I let myself believe that the size 0 dress I had on was really a size zero, LOL!

When I took my dress to the register the sales girl IMMEDIATELY changed her tune, then it was all about "Is there anything else I can do for you miss", " did you find everything you needed?" chick! please, I was like ring me up and stop talking to me right now, lol. I got my dress and the experience was a bit tainted by the sales girl but that had no bearing on my love for DVF and I can't use one persons ignorance to judge every single store, that was just MY experience at the NYC store.

DIY Skirt: Self Drafted Pencil Midi Skirt

Self Drafted Midi Pencil Skirt

This is the EASIEST skirt to make! I folded my fabric measure my waist plus 4" from the fold and marked a straight line. I am working with a striped stretchy DK so negative ease is needed for the right fit. I cut the straight line sewed it up and that became my CB seam. I then tried it on so I could see if I needed to peg it more at the hem (that is the key to a midi skirt like this) I marked where the skirt hit the bottom of my butt and marked it and then took it in 1/4" from hem up to the mark.

I added the elastic with the serger because I need it to stretch with the fabric when pulling this sucker on, lol then I folded the elastic in a tacked it at the CB seam and a tack on each side. Sewed the hem 1.5" by hand and was done, I think it took 30 min total, LOL
