OOTD: DIY Pants + Pattern Review Butterick 5895

Hi Darlings!

So....remember when I made my Black & White Floral Riding Jacket worn HERE? well I had just over a yard of that amazing fabric left and so I decided to put it to good use and make some pants from a pattern I had been meaning to try anyway... Butterick 5895
Pattern Description: Semi-fitted, tapered jeans (rolled-up, wrong side shows) have waistband, side front pockets, stitched hems, and back zipper.

Fabric Used: Floral Textured Knit found HERE and make sure to use the code "MIMIMAY10"

Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6

Were the instructions easy to follow? The pattern instructions are well written and pretty basic when it comes to construction, I did not use them but I did read them.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Well I love a high waist pant and and when I saw Gertie's pattern I knew I was going to give it try but with some changes.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I omitted the pockets because I wanted a very flat and smooth front and I didn't think the pockets worked well with this fabric. I also was not planning on wearing them rolled up so I added 2" to the length but now after making them I think I should have added 3-4" to the length because the pattern is intended to be worn above the calf.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I plan to make them in a stretch denim.

  10. Lovely Pants. I just "discovered" your blog and spent the last two weeks going through old posts....Whew! I am so inspired and I plan to recreate a lot of the outfits you've posted. I don't work with patterns...learned to sew a different way where I'm from...but I'm seriously considering ordering some patterns as they seem to save a whole lot of time from the look of it.

And your shoes are making me drool...:D

  15. Mimi you kill it every time......gurl werk it!! I have the same body type but I am 5ft 11in (don't be mad) and none of my shoes are less than 3 inches - can't walk if they are too flat:-). Anyway made similar alterations and got a result that I love in close fitting pants. Keep serving it up..you definitely have talent.
