Winners!!! + Class Supplies!

Hi Darlings!

Congrats to the following two winners of the Simplicity Pattern #2314 and the $25 Gift Card to Fabric.com! make sure to email me your name, mailing address and email so I can get you these out to you asap!

Thanks to Simplicity.com they have offered a 15% OFF the class Pattern and FREE SHIPPING! Use Coupon Code: MIMIGNL15

*****READY TO WEAR SIZES AND PATTERN SIZES ARE NOT THE SAME.
I wear a size 2 or 3 in ready to wear but I sew sizes 6-10 depending on the garment so don't be alarmed.

I have highlighted the areas you need to focus on when ordering your pattern and buying your fabric.
I usually cut and make a size 6 for myself which is highlighted above and because we are making a skirt that falls away from the hips (non-form fitting) we only need to focus on the waist measurement today.

#1 Measure your waist and select the size closest to that measurement.

#2 Just below that you will notice I pointed to skirt B (below knee) which is the one I will be making and it says I will need 1 1/2 yards of fabric.

*Note: The length has no bearing on the lessons so if you want to make Skirt A (long) or Skirt C (short) then choose the fabric yardage next to that skirt and under your size.

#3 Once you have determined your size and fabric yardage go ahead and order your pattern HERE and enter the coupon code to get 15% off and free shipping.

We will need to buy lining fabric for the skirt because as you can see this pattern is for an unlined skirt so we will be making our own lining. Make sure to buy the same amount of lining as you do your skirt fabric.

For Sizes 20-24:  Butterick 3134 View B is a great option of you fall between a size 20-24 according to the measurements given on the back of the Butterick pattern. You will be able to follow along so dont worry to much about having to use an alternate pattern and choose your size and fabric yardage the same way as I explained for Simplicity 2314.

  10. Good night Mimi et al,

I just bought my downloadable pattern and will paste it together tomorrow. Mimi, my question to you - as my fabric selection here on my island is not as vast as what is available in the US - would you be able to suggest some additional fabric suggestions; I will try for the cotton twill or I am hoping to get a tribal print. I am so looking forward to the next four weeks, I will be making good use of my time management skill - balancing classes, assignements, gym, mimi online sewing class and oh yeah the 'bills payer'. Thanks again for this opportunity.

Oh, Mimi - I was going over your OsOT/DIYs and I was looking at your pants photos. You noted that you edit the pattern to get the flared leg fit that you like. MMMMMM!! I was wondering if sometime in the near future you will be putting out a tutorial on your technique for obtaining such a fit ( I am very hipsy and I think that fit is more appealing for my shape and I would love to try my hand at making slacks like yours).

    Regards
    Alison

  14. I purchased my fabric and pattern from JoAnn's last night. Seeing that Hobby Lobby has the pattern for .99 this week, I had a copy of their add and the cashier price matched it at JoAnn's!

  15. Not sure if my previous post made it....I was able to price match the pattern for .99 at JoAnn's by showing the Hobby Lobby printed ad from the website. Make sure the date is visible at the bottom. I was also able to use Hobby Lobby's 40% off coupon as well on the fabric!!!

  18. Hi Mimi

I notice that the pattern waist size only goes up to "32" and I'm a "34" waist. Also I could not order the pattern before tonight and they are sold out. It has been a very busy week for me and my plan was to order the pattern on Friday but my system was down. I will try and find the pattern at Joann's on Sunday if I can get out because we had a bad snow storm on Friday and I have been unable to go out because the roads are closed. Is there another skirt pattern I can use if I cannot find 2314?

  19. Hi Mimi,
I went to a Hancock Fabric store, and explained to the store rep that I am a beginner. She was in disbelief that I was taking a course online with a fab teacher in Cali. She said how is she going to see/feel your fabric? Why does she want you to use a lining? The questions went on & on. As I exited she said I'm here if you have questions...hmmmm.
All that to say thank you for being so optimistic about our abilities to learn how to sew & enjoy what we are doing.
