Hi Darlings! I just wanted to check in and show you the shirt I made and mentioned in the last post/tutorial I am almost done with it but realized that I didn't have the correct size buttons so I need to pick those up and then give the shirt a final press. Actually, my husband will do the pressing because I can't properly press a dress shirt to save my life, LOL!
All of the seams are flat felled seams and the collar and cuffs were sewn by hand for a clean finish. It took me about 7 hours from start to finish and it fits just as I wanted. I'm so glad that yesterdays post was helpful for so many of you.
xoxo

looking good
ReplyDeleteHi Mimi,
ReplyDeleteLooks really nice. Can't wait to see how you rock it!
Hey Mimi -
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this in an OOTD!
Great job lady!
I just finished a button front that I have not posted yet, also a Burda. I think your blouse looks fabulous. I can't wait to see it worn.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it Mimi!!! I had pants on my list next but you make me want to switch my story REAL quick!!!
ReplyDeleteSwooning! How I love a tailored shirt. So wish I could make one. Love living vicariously through you Mimi! Looks great, can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteLooks great and I like the contrast buttonholes. Thanks for noting the application of the collar and cuffs by hand. A lot of people don't like hand work, but I find that it actually saves times if you know you want better control over the fabric. I'd rather sew it by hand than rip-stitch-rip.
ReplyDeleteWould you consider doing a post on how you hand stitched the cuffs and collar?
Mimi you just showing off...SMH...ROFL...SO ELEGANT :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! This is a great looking shirt and I can't wait until you do a OOTD with it. I hate the thought of hand sewing, but since you promote it I might give it a try. :-)

ReplyDeleteI really like the white collar & cuffs on this print. Nice job. it must be a wonderful feeling to rock something you made. that's admirable.
ReplyDeletewhat type of material did you use for the collar?
ReplyDeleteI scored some nice, classic striped shirting and really (REALLY!) want to make a button down with it. I cannot buy button downs RTW because to fit the body, the bust is gaping and the arms are tight. To fit the bust I'm swimming in the shirt, etc, etc.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm a beginner. Like...BEGINNER. I've made some simple straightforward projects with knits and am working up a shirt now. Do you think a button down is suitable for a beginner...and in a STRIPE too!? :) Thanks!
