DIY Dress: NL6083 Modified Again!

Used In The Color-blocked Dress

Good Morning!! I first want to ask a question because I have noticed that many of the UBER popular fashion blogs don't ever respond to comments left for them 0_o now I realize that it is time consuming because I spend about 1.5 to 2hrs a day just responding to comments and emails so I get it but here is my question, does it matter to you guys if you leave a comment on a blog and NEVER get a reply, an acknowledgment anything? do you care?

I try my best to respond to all of your comments because it is important to me that you know I read them and appreciate your time so please know that if you don't get a response right away on the comments section, I will get to it and I have not forgotten you ;-)

Modifications

I love this pattern so much because it has such great potential for modifications! Here is what I did:
I added 6" to the length (this is a shirt pattern so you have to adjust) I made the neckline a Vneck, shortened the sleeves and took them in for a more fitted look. I used a cotton pique fabric and it worked great, it holds it's shape easily.

I got my necklace fro Charlotte Russe
I wore the new shoes hubby got me from Bebe, I love them!!

  1. Nice. Cute shoes!

To answer your question, it depends lol. If a blog is very active and gets a lot of comments I don't feel slighted if I don't get a response because I know that can be very time consuming. If I had to choose I'd rather see new blog posts. But if there isn't very much activity on the blog and the person doesn't respond, I probably wouldn't comment again. Well it also depends on whether it was just a comment or a question.

    1. Good to know, I just think that if you have a blog and it is a big part of your world than treat it the way you would a business and respond to your followers, people like to know that you are reachable/attainable in some way. Even if it's just a "Thanks", lol

    2. My blog is SEVERELY neglected so I am the last to talk lol.

  2. I'm a huge fan of long hair but I have to say your short do looks so chic and FAB on you...so Halle from back in the days. Also, love this black number with a POC by that turquoise necklace!

  3. Great outfit! Simple yet very stylish! To answer your question, I try to respond by visiting their blog and replying to a post of theirs that interests me. I know that's also how some bloggers respond. You're right it does get very time consuming even doing it that way but I enjoy spreading the blogger love lol! As far as people responding to me, if they do, great, if they don't I don't let it bother me. I just take it that they're not into what I had to wear that day. :)

  4. Hey Mimi, I too am a big fan of your blog! I'm a DIY type of gal and you have inspired me to really consider this whole sewing kick. But what I truly enjoy most as your blog follower is how interactive you are with us, you're like a girlfriend sharing some great stuff. Anyway, for what's worth I appreciate the time you take out to respond and be so detailed in your blogs. Again girl, love the blog....so please keep it coming. Thank you again

  5. Love, love, love that dress and each and every one of the accessories today. Re: comments, I'm with M. Inez -- it depends. I don't necessarily feel bad if there's no response to my comment. But, when my comment is acknowledged, it makes me that much more loyal and likely to support and share my love for that blog.

    1. Thanks, That is good to know. I just feel weird not even saying thank you, you know? lol

  6. I agree with M. Inez. If it takes YOU up to 2 hours to respond to the comments you get, i can imagine how long it takes for someone with a huge following to respond to questions.

I would do a generalized response if possible, for example, a lot of people are asking the same question about a necklace you are wearing, then post a general response about the necklace, or a general 'thank you' comment for all the compliments you got on your outfit (rather than individual 'thank you' for each and every compliment.

I rather you use that time to give us one more fabulous post! lol....

  11. To be honest, once I leave a comment I never really check back to the comment section to see if tehre was a response, unless I've asked a question. I usually just check a the blog to see if there has been any new post. To be honest I'm bad at responding to comments. I never know what to say. I guess "Thank You" is always appreciated and for the future that's what I'll work on doing, whenever I get around to posting again. lol

  12. It depends - if I ask a question, I seriously appreciate a response. If I'm just giving a compliment, I don't expect anything.

  13. Mimi, I just love your style. I can't say it enough. I love how you turned a simple black dress into a bold, bright, beautiful outfit. Girl you ROCK!!!
I do like to recv a reply and I love to read replys to others. BUT i do not take if personal if there are not any replies. I understand that it is very time consuming. It's time consuming for me to read comments people write. I can't imagine being in your 5inch stiletto's reading and reply. lol

  14. It doesn't bother me much if a person don't respond. It's only if I ask a question and they don't respond AND they have that cute little note on their blog begging you to leave a comment O_O Whaa?? LOL. But I really like the way you respond to people on your blog. The returning a "Thank you" by email can get a bit tedious. I would have never guessed your hand bag was KS..I love it!! And your dress and jewerly is fabulous!

  15. Too cute for words...

  16. It does matter to me if the person writing the blog responds. I read a lot of sewing blogs and always see people asking for responses. However, it bothers me when I do not get a response back. Why ask for a comment if you know you are not going to respond to the comment? Is it just to keep the blog going?

  17. Re comment reply: I appreciate it when I notice but I don't expect it and I often forget to check.

I wanted to make a few tutorial suggestions incase you are ever looking for ideas. One of the things I love about your work is how knits play such a huge roll in your sewing. I too prefer to sew with knits - because it's what I wear the most, and my goal is to make things I already wear and love, just knock them off, improve them, and make more varieties of the same. So the thing that is most challenging for me is the hemming and the binding of necklines/armholes/waist. I'd love to see you do a series on your favorite methods, what you use when, and any tips or tricks you've discovered. Thanks for sharing your talent & you are an inspiration!

  18. Only if I had a question :) However; it is cute when you do respond. It makes it seem more personal ;D

  24. Mimi I have been following since you first started blogging. I was so impressed and inspired by the fab stuff you were cranking out back in the day and still am. Regarding comments...I don't expect a reply unless I ask a direct question. I think the idea of using a future blog post to answer questions or to say thanks to your readers is a good one. Girl please don't use your precious time to reply to every comment. You keep your blog current which is time consuming enough (I know because mine is not current - LOL). Love your style and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge via tutorials and video(better than a reply I might add). Keep the fresh style flowing.

  25. Love the outfit to answer your question I really only reply myself if questions are asked you know. but if it's a compliment I usually just appreciate it and do the same on their blog also. I leave comments on posts I love from bloggers I follow it shows you care and the'res a reason behind the fact that you follow them and not just because you know they are follow you and you doing them a favor. I love style I love your blog and everything on here is fantastic so I comment all the time.

  26. I appreciate it when I get a response from a comment I make on a blog. I don't even bother commenting on blogs whose owners don't acknowledge commenters. What's the point? At least a few responses would be nice, you don't have to respond to each and and every comment :-)

  27. Hi Mimi, I enjoy reading your blog. It has so much information and style tips.
I don't often comment on blogs if I do it is usually to ask a question. If the question is ignored than I feel a little slighted and probably wouldn't comment again. I guess I would feel unimportant

If I just left a comment a response would be appreciated but I would understand if I did no receive one

Happy Easter and blessings to you and your famiiy,
    Ronnie

  29. I love it that you respond to your followers. I'm currently starting my own blog, so I was inspired by that. It makes a huge difference. It makes your readers feel included. You're very inspiring to me with your blog, and you just taking the time to respond to the comments makes you more of an inspiration. And to think I found your fabulous blog on Fashion Bomb and never knew about you before. I love your blog, and even though it's time consuming, that added personal touch makes you more special. Thanks Mimi!

Your skills are impeccable and even thought its late (I just got in from church, Happy Easter btw) I can't stop perusing your blog! I have NEVER thought about sewing until very recently and between your style and designs and the things I keep finding on Pinterest, I am going to take a beginners sewing class. I have to do something! Lol! Plus, I have sewing in my bloodline- My grandmother was a seamstress!

  33. I love all of your outfits you sew. I bought a machine a year ago and several patterns and took a few classes. Have yet to sew anything. Have only done some minor alterations but you inspire me so much! I wish for your sewing talent one day! I love those shoes! I almost bought them from Ross the other day but in camel. You might want to go get the camel colored ones, they would look great on you just like the black ones. FYI- they are only $24.99!
