Hi Darlings!
I am having an amazing week you guys! I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am for all the really great things that are happening with my family and the blog. Thank you all for the support and love you guys show me. I KNOW I have the best fans EVER!
Today I woke up feeling sparkly and since I bought this sweater at the GAP a few weeks back, because of it's sparkle, I knew I had to wear it. Aside from the sweater being so fab and versatile it also has a really great shape. Some sweaters are shaped odd and when you wear them they fail to fall properly on the body but this one has a great shape and front "tuck ability" lol that is a new term I just made up. I am known to do a front tuck often so that is always the first thing I check when I buy sweaters. A sparkle sweater is also a great way to dress up some jeans and boots.
The skirt is a favorite of mine and I made it using 3 panels instead of one full front piece so I could get a much greater drape on the bottom. If you are a new be to sewing you can get a very similar look using my mermaid skirt tutorial, it is probably one of the easiest projects to get started with.
QUICK TIP: During the winter months (and yes it still gets cold in Cali) I wear leggings or heavy tights under my maxi skirts and they keep me really warm.
I love this skirt!!! I have to make me one ASAP... hopefully my curves look like that too...lol
ReplyDelete1st off love the outfit... I know this might call for more of an answer than you have time to give on here but how does sewing the skirt in 3 panels give it better drape?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I got you mermaid skirt tutorial over the thanksgiving weekend (yay 20% discount) but I was wondering do you think it'd be ok to make it with a black sequin material? I got 4 yards for a ridiculously good price at Joann on black Friday and I've been dying to make a maxi skirt with it, any thoughts?
One word, well maybe two words....Classy cute!
ReplyDeleteLove it! A day or evening look!

ReplyDeleteLove the sparkle sweater. Great for the season.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this look!
ReplyDeleteI love the panel detail!!! The mermaid skirt was already perfect, but the panels kicked it up! Did you give each panel an individual flare?
ReplyDeleteLove this look very chic
ReplyDeleteLove the look!!!! I just recently stumbled across your site via research on a natural hair blog. I absolutely LOVE what you're doing for some of us who aren't so savvy in the fashion dept. I'm a 35-year-old single mother who WANTS/NEEDS to get her groove back. It's hard to find clothes in the store because they're either for the younger generation or way to grandma looking. I love how you are able to put pieces together and still look a million bucks. I will be visiting this site daily. Oh...and my 12-year-old daughter has requested a sewing machine for Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute, as a plus size I know it will look good also. I just love your style. good job.
ReplyDeleteYou have the perfect shape for this skirt; actually for this look period! You rock.

That skirt is just "Va Va Voom!" Looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou know a motivated person could also DIY that pretty sweater with your MimiG Hotpatterns Tee lol! It's a VERY similar shape and easily modified in the front for the tuck. I have been really enjoying making that tee and every version I have made has received many compliments.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.. Love the skirt and Love the sweater. You look great as always.. God Bless!!
