Book Review: Vintage Couture Tailoring

Book: Vintage Couture Tailoring

Author: Thomas Von Nordheim

Summary: The trade secrets of couture tailoring are revealed—an invaluable guide for professionals and enthusiast.
Review: I have read just about every book on tailoring there is and this will be one of those books that will stay on my desk and not on the shelf. The book has a lot of the same techniques found in some of the really great tailoring books like Couture Sewing Techniques and Tailoring: The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket but this particular book has little gold nuggets of invaluable information from bespoke tailor's workrooms. The images and step by steps are fantastic and so clearly explained just by looking at the images (real photographs not drawings) the book also shows the right and wrong way of stitching, holding the fabric etc. 
My favorite thing about the book is that it is glorious enough for the seasoned seamstress and easy enough to follow for newbies/intermediates wanting to learn techniques to start improving on their tailoring skills.

ZARA Home Has Launched

I just spent the last 45 minutes on the ZARA Home site! not only have they launched ZARA Home but they also have a ZARA Home Kids too.

I love so much of what I saw mainly because it seems to have this really warm and welcoming feel to it. The pieces are fresh and modern but have been given a vintage kiss. The bedding sets and stem wear sets are so delicate and cozy. 

Im a ready to redecorate and host a tea party!

OOTD: All American Chic

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for the well wishes, I am feeling a little better today but I did skip my workout this morning and plan to do it tonight after work instead. 

This morning as I was getting ready (slowly I might add) I pulled out the most comfortable dress in my closet right now which I bought recently and as I was preparing my post for today in my head I realized the dress I had on is from the Gap lol! So I think I may need to give them a break for a minute because I am giving them a whole lot of free pub and sending them a whole lot of biz, LOL!

This Gap shirt dress is a favorite for me right now because it is comfy and easy to style. Its like working with a blank canvas. I will wear it a lot this fall ;-)

The tote I am carrying is from Target of all places, lol but it was cute and it fits my macbook ;-)

Today I kept the look pretty simple with my patent leather pumps from Steve Madden, I like the simplistic look and classic appeal.

The dress came with a denim skinny tie around but I wanted to wear this belt Ive had in my closet for ages and have hardly ever worn it. I also liked how it picked up the color of my DIY scarf.

I made this DIY scarf ages ago and now that it is starting to cool off a bit I can start making some more, which means I will do a quick and easy tutorial ;-) oh! and my sunnies are from a mall kiosk ;-)

Watch is Michael Kors and the Leopard bracelet (which i wear all the time) is from NY&Co.
The pave ring is from Michael Kors and my little pearl one is from F21. Since I know you are going to ask my polish is from Maybelline and its called "Tenacious Teal"

OOTD: Classics Works For Me

Happy Tuesday! I would say that I am having a great day and all but I kinda hurt myself and am in a bit of pain...I had been feeling a little tug in my neck on Sunday (kind of like when you sleep wrong and wake up a little stiff, you know?) but yesterday was the first day (again) of my Insanity workout and I didn't want to put it off any longer so I got up and did the work out anyway and I made it worse. Today I woke up feeling jacked up ;-( but I am hoping that it will start to feel better after I go get a deep tissue massage tonight. 

Lucky for me I posted yesterday about my venture with Bernina so I had my OOTD from yesterday to share today.

 I love wearing classic looks like jeans and a button up layered with a sweater. It is an easy and comfy look to rock when it starts to get cool out.

 My glasses are just clear frames from Forever 21

The broach I have on was a gift from a friend and it added just enough sparkle to my causal work day look.

 I never really show my shoes when I wear my wide leg jeans because they are always hidden, lol so I thought I show a bit of the shoe. I picked these up on clearance at Steve Madden a while back.

The New Bernina 7 Series + Mimi G

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent most of my Saturday at New Moon Textiles in Pasadena CA training on the new and amazing Bernina 780 Sewing Machine and my mind was blown. I cant wait until I am able to share in detail my experience.

Bernina has handpicked yours truly to be a Bernina Sewing Celebrity! and as a sewing celebrity I get to take this amazing machine home with me so I can spend some time creating and learning and documenting my experiences to then share with all of you.  I am so excited and honored to work with Bernina and I cant wait to start blogging here and on the Bernina site in early December but for now I am sharing a sneak peek of my trip this past Saturday to pick up the machine ;-)

Brown Loves Grey

One of my favorite neutrals to play with during the fall are Brown and Grey. These neutrals always play well together and lend themselves well to pops of color or prints.
 I  have put together 3 looks I plan to pull together this fall.

Look #1: Add a lighter shade of grey in the accessories

This is the perfect running errands look for me. I can live in this even though my inner glamour girl is always trying to make in appearance in heels and bling. I truly love the ease of this look, wearing jeans with an over sized sweater add a little scarf and great bag and some sunnies and you are fabulous, chic and comfy.

Look #2: Use a Pop of color to add interest

The pop of color in this set adds interest to the look and the leopard print just pulls the entire look together. I love using stripes, prints and color to create a chic and sexy cool look.

Look #3: Funky it up with a print and studs

Using the soft cardigan and subtle print with a classic bag soften the harshness of the motorcycle boots to make this look feminine with a touch of funkiness.

Pretty In Pink + How To Wear ONE Solid Color

Happy Friday!! I am so ready for this weekend because I have been waiting patiently to share some a really cool opportunity with you guys that I have been given and tomorrow I go train for said opportunity, lol! I will share a bit about that on Monday. 

Now on to my all pink fit..

 I love color and that is very apparent in my daily outfits but what I also like to do with color is to wear one color in different shades so today I pulled out my @Gap Khakis and @Gap Neon Shirt.

There is a little tip I like to keep in mind when I wear ALL one color and that is to make sure that shades are distinctively different (light to dark or vice verse) then make sure to use  VERY neutral shoe to soften the look.

I added my @Gap belt (old) to subtly break the colors at the waist and because I loved how pink and girly my fit was I added pearls and some gold accessories.

 This belt is one of my favorites, I found it on clearance for 70% off some time ago and I snatched it up.

The earring I have on are from @forever21 and so are my pearls. My Sunnies are (old) from Kate Spade, they are one of my favorites.
