DIY Chevron Print Dress + Pattern Review of V8898 View B

 Hi Darlings!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and took good care of the mommies in your lives. I had a wonderful weekend and even took time for an afternoon nap which I haven't done in ages! it felt so good.

Todays review is of #8898 a recent pattern from Vogue Patterns which is listed as a Loose-fitting, pullover dress has right shoulder pleats forming drape, and narrow hem. Self belt,  & C. has right side opening. I loved this pattern as soon as I saw it, it looked chic and comfy which is always a win/win and the fabric I planned to use was going to work nicely because there were minimal seam lines in the pattern.

This Chevron Knit was in my stash already; it is a great lightweight sweater knit that flows and drapes really well and...it's only $5.00 a yard! I also would love to make this in this Leopard Print

I didnt make any modifications to this pattern but I did make sure to cut the XS because I knew having to much drape gathered under the arm and at the hip could cause issues since I planned to wear as seen in view B. The XS was perfect because it was still loose fitting and the draping is comfy and feel very natural.

What I loved most about this pattern is that it took me less then an hour from start to finish including cutting time and it is super easy to sew, you only need to some quick pleats at the shoulder and sew up and down the sides. I used bias binding for my neck and armhole because it's a nice and clean finish.  I never just fold over 5/8" on curves.

  9. Awesome dress Mimi. Question, would you consider giving a lesson on neckline facings? I tried my first neckline with the help of YouTube. It was painful, but I got through it.

  14. You always make beautiful clothes. Great fabric selections. Would you take photos of inside of the garments so that we can see some of the details you mention? Such as the bias binding at the neck and arm holes you mentioned. And do you use bias binding for all garments or just knits and is it store bought or made from the same fabric as the garment...? Thanks Mimi

  15. You make it look so easy! The diva in me is so inspired and I want to sew everything in sight right now! I am currently looking at vogue patterns. I took a private sewing class from a little old lady i worked with in Hancock Fabrics when I came outta high school. But that was 18 years ago. You have inspired me to dust off my old Kenmore sewing machine! Mimi where should i start?

  17. Ok, I have to jump in now...I found you about one week ago and have been hooked on your blog and videos since. You are so very inspiring. Yesterday I pulled out my sewing machine and serger that have been put away for approx. 15 years or so, cleaned and tuned them up and can't wait to get back into sewing. I've also pulled out my fabric stash...oh my, so many treasures waiting for a purpose...and purchased a few new patterns to get me going. Thank you so much for the inspiration and igniting that old flame under me. I forsee an obsession coming on ;)

One request though...I am a bit intimidated by my old friend "Serge"...could you possibly do a video or two on overlock machines? It's been so long since I've worked with him that I feel as though we've just met.

Thanks again for all you share!

    2. Oh, thank you :) Sorry I missed it, I'm heading over now. I'm so glad that you have one out there, I love how you explain the processes. I've checked out videos from others, but somehow I just "get it" when you explain it. You are a natural as a teacher.

      Thanks again!

  18. As long as I've been watching your tutorials every garment has been beautifully sewn with great fabric! However, what impresses me the most are your videos...so easy to follow with lots of little tips to help us. Thanks and keep up the fabulous job you do.

  19. Would it be possible for you to include some closer shots when one of your DIY outfits include things that a novice sewer such as myself might be a little intimidated by (ex. pleats) :) Aside from that I LOVE your blog, probably check it every day-lol

  23. Can you tell me the method you used for the bias binding? Did you use a strip of the fabric, or did you purchase stretch bias biding? Thanks!
