OOTD: #DIY Red High-Low Belted Dress

Hi Darlings!

I always have to remind myself to look in the back of the closet for the previous years dresses to see if there is anything I want to pull out so last night I did just that and I found my McCall 6553 dress which I only wore once after I made it last year in April.

I forgot how much I liked this dress when I made it and how quickly it came together although I did mention in the review that I would make some minor changes to the pattern. The dress was part of the very first set of "Fashion Star" patterns by McCalls and although the pattern envelope did not look that great once made up it looks great.

I wont review it again since I did that the first time I wore it but you can read it HERE also HERE is a link to a very similar fabric.

    1. Short explanation: It means you literally sew it all the way around including the hem and leave a small opening in one of the side seams to pull it through.

  2. After I saw this dress made up I had to buy this pattern. Then I saw a woman walking the street in a black lace one and I really wanted to make one. I just haven't been able to find the right lace.

  4. Hey Mimi. I did make this dress also. I made a different version, no hi-low, and didn't make the inside loops for the sash!! Now that I see this~I will make again!

  5. Super cute! It looks really comfy. I love the shoes with it too. That dress seems like it'll look good on any shape.

  6. I definitely wasn't expecting the back on the dress, BUT it's a great surprise-such a unique design.

    You look fabulous, as always.

  7. Love it Mimi. I made this dress as well and I get so many compliments on it. Patterns are not the easiest for me to follow but this one was great. I made a few minor adjustments for a better fit but all and all easy to follow and great result...........looking at your dress I think I need a bright spring and summer one, since I made my first in a Navy Blue Ponte Roma. Great Job by you as always........question where do you find the time to do it all Super Woman....lol.

  9. Ok mimi you are the baddest in the sewing game. I love everything you sew. Your calling is to sew and if you had a boutique I would spend all my money in it.

  10. I love this pattern! It has been soo long since I've sewn, but maybe dusting this pattern off will do the trick. I think I'll make the back longer for more drama. Thanks for inspiring me!

  19. I just found your blog a few days ago, after joining a sewing group on FB. I have been sewing since I was 15, but hadn't done any sewing in last 3 years and need inspiration. I found it with you. After seeing your dress, I had seen the pattern before but didn't jump out at me, I went to Joann's and got it for $.70. Will be making it to wear to an anniversary party next month. Thanks!
